RASTA

Rasta is the oldest sheep at Ziggy’s Refuge and one of our most treasured elders. We believe he was born around 2008, making him approximately 18 years old.

He arrived at the sanctuary alongside his beloved companion, Daisy Mae the goat, after we were able to intervene just in time as they were being transported to slaughter. A call came in with a simple but urgent choice: get them to safety, or they would not survive the day. We said yes without hesitation.

Since the moment Rasta arrived, his life has been filled with the one thing he had always been denied - love. While his past clearly left its marks, and he remains understandably insecure around humans, Rasta is incredibly sweet in his own quiet way. We honor him exactly as he is and ask nothing more of him than to feel safe.

The center of Rasta’s world is Daisy Mae. The sun truly rises and sets on her for him. Their bond is deep, tender, and unwavering, a beautiful reminder of how powerful friendship can be, especially after surviving so much together.

Rasta’s days now are peaceful, steady, and full of comfort. After a lifetime of hardship, he finally knows what it means to be safe, cherished, and home.
